On Jan 28th 2023, NASA's Curiosity Mars rover captured images of an iron-nickel meteorite that they nicknamed "Cacao".
Cacao was discovered in the "sulfate-bearing unit" a region on Mars' Mount Sharp, it is estimated to be around 1 foot (30cm) across. It is one of several meteorites Curiosity has discovered whilst exploring Mars, inspiring me to create this piece.
The textures mimic the rugged terrain of Mars, while the abstract metallic hues of cacao infuse the artwork with a sense of indulgence and discovery, this piece is guaranteed to spark conversation, whilst adding sophistication to any room.
